VItamin D Test and follow-up Interpretation Session

£67.00

Why it’s super-important to test not guess

Testing of your Vitamin D levels is particularly important to ensure that you are getting enough. While it is possible to overdose to toxic levels on Vitamin D as it is a fat-soluble vitamin (is stored in the body to some degree), it is unlikely (unless you are taking high level supplements over a long period of time).

However, it is important to test to make sure that your dosing schedule is sufficient to be beneficial. You need to know your starting point, otherwise the likelihood is, even if you are taking a supplement already, you are risking overdose or (more likely) the dose you are taking will be a ‘drop in the ocean‘ and will not be sufficient to provide benefits. Some people, for example, people with autoimmune conditions, will benefit from having higher levels.

If you have very low levels (as is very common in the UK), you will need the right regime to get your levels up. Many people I test who are supplementing still have a very low Vitamin D level. They were simply not taking enough to get the beneficial effects for them.

You cannot get enough Vitamin D from food

There are very few food sources that contain small amounts of Vitamin D (Oily fish, egg yolks, shitake mushrooms) and some foods are fortified with Vitamin D (cereals, margarine etc.). But these are small amounts that need to be further converted by our body into active forms that we can use. Some of us aren’t good at converting.

We also need to take care in the sun. Many of us need to use a high-factor sun cream (to avoid getting burnt) which will also mean we are unlikely to be able to make much Vitamin D.

The investment to you is only £67. This includes a simple test (further details below) and follow-up session on zoom to advise on supplementation/next steps.

Why is having an optimal level of Vitamin D important?

Vitamin D has a very important role to play in supporting the Immune System and
protecting us from cancer.

1) It boosts the activity of immune cells that fight infection and target cancer cells

• Evidence suggests that COVID-19 risk and severity is increased in Vitamin D deficiency

• A study of over 19,000 adults & adolescents found those with lowest Vitamin D levels were 40% more likely to develop a common cold

• A study involving 34,000 postmenopausal women found an 11% lower risk of developing breast cancer (a disease of the immune system) in those with higher Vitamin D levels (Robin K et. Al, 2007).

2) Vitamin D is also important for the health of our bones as we age
Studies have found 3-4 times higher osteoarthritis progression in those with lower levels of Vitamin D (McAlindon et al, 1996 & Felson et al, 2000). Bone and joint pain may be worsened by insufficient Vitamin D levels

3) Vitamin D has many other supportive roles in the body
There is lots of evidence that Vitamin D supports many of our bodily functions as we have receptors all over the body. It is also shown to be helpful in supporting mood – low levels have been implicated in depression and are thought to be part of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).  Vitamin D is also supportive of heart health (via it’s role in calcium metabolism).

Further Information:

You will receive the testing kit through the post. It is the most simple test on the market and requires a finger-prick blood test (using a specially designed single-use lancet). You then need to provide only 4 drops of blood, that you put onto a card. You then send this off in the post to the laboratory (postage fee is included).

Once you receive your test result, you are requested to contact me to arrange your follow-up appointment which will take place on zoom. You will need to complete a brief form in advance of your appointment.

At your appointment (which will take approximately 20 minutes), I will advise you on your next steps and supplemental regime (if required).

I look forward to speaking with you! Michelle 🙂
